Spring & Summer Tours
Horse-drawn Wagon Rides, Sunday, May 2, narrated tours every 30 minutes beginning at 3:00 PM, last tour at 5:30 PM; adults, $10; children 12 and younger, $8; members: adults, $8; children 12 and younger, $6.
Summer Walking Tour Series – Historical Walking Tours of North Carolina’s oldest rural cemetery given by various local historians – each giving their own personal twist to Oakdale’s history. Tours will be the third Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. May 15 – Susan Taylor Block June 19 – Eric Kozen (Cemetery History) July 17 – Ed Gibson (Public Service focus-Police & Fireman) August 21 – TBA September 18 –Bob Cooke (Civil War Tour) No Advance reservations – Admission is $8 per person, free to all Friends of Oakdale members. Tours are cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
Bird Watching Tour: Saturday, September 25, 8:00 AM Go birding throughout Oakdale Cemetery with noted ornithologist, Dr James Parnell. A retired professor of biology at University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Dr. Parnell is the author of numerous books and articles on birds, among which is Birds of the Carolinas, which he co-authored. $8.00 for non-members; FREE for members. |
